Established in 1863 as the Leek United Permanent Benefit Building Society, the society is based in Staffordshire, England. It acquired its current name in 1990 and is the one of the only building societies that hasn't required acquisitions or mergers in order to expand. Murray Financial did attempt to acquire the society in 1999, however, this was rejected by the members by an almost 3:1 ratio. It currently has 12 branches in the area and is ranked 18th on the list of UKs largest societies.
