MG Car Company Ltd was a British Sports car manufacturer founded by Cecil Kimber in the 1920s. MG Produced coupés, saloons and two-seat open sports cars which it was best known for. Kimber's employer William Morris owned Morris Garages which is where MG is from and it belonged to him until he sold it into his holding company in 1935 and issued shares to the public in 1936 further to a restructure of his holdings.In the autumn of 1980, however, the Abingdon factory closed and MGB production ceased. In May 2000, the MG marque merged with the Rover marque and this saw the return of MG Badges on sportier Rover based vehicles. Chinese car maker Nanjing bought MG Rover in July 2005 and now operate a MG Motor UK Subsidiary.
